At 27 years old, Alexandre Foillard started to produce exceptional wines that will soon be a regular feature in the world’s best collections, as he is establishing himself as THE rising star of the Beaujolais region, following in his father’s footsteps, Beaujolais royalty Jean Foillard. Here is a winemaker whose biodynamically-produced wines proved that Beaujolais wines could, and should, compete on the global stage by regularly outperforming far "grander" wines of the Côte d’Or.

Son Alex has inherited his father’s skill and has learnt from the very best. His wines, produced in the communes of Brouilly and Côte de Brouilly follow the same, irrepressible style so vividly captured in his father’s wines. The 2017 vintage (only Alex’s second commercial release) available at under £20 per bottle in bond, has already drawn in very positive critical acclaim and even at this early juncture it is clear to see that here a star is born… With an allocation of just 10 cases of bottles and a mere 3 cases of magnums, Mr.Wheeler is delighted to be the first UK merchant to offer Alex’s 2017 Brouilly. "The 2017 Brouilly wafts from the glass with aromas of sweet red cherries, citrus rind and flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, succulent and enveloping, with a fleshy core of fruit, ripe acids and fine concentration. One-third of the cuvée was matured in used barrels, the balance in cement tank. This cuvée is typically firmer and more structured than Alex's Côte de Brouilly, turning appellation stereotypes on their heads, but this vintage is the exception. Drink 2018-2028"

Where possible, we will use the existing packaging the wine is shipped to us in from the producer. If we feel this is unfit, we will re-pack in a Mr.Wheeler branded, recyclable cardboard carton.
