2019 Châteauneuf-du-Pape 'La Crau', Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe
2019 was an outstanding vintage in the region producing rich, structured powerful reds which are set to develop into absolute showstoppers in the coming years.
Arguably the most famous and well respected wine critic, Robert Parker, could see the potential with Rhône specialist Joe Czerwinski awarding this 2019 release a mightily impressive 96+ points, commenting that it was "full-bodied, rich and velvety, finishing with tremendous length..."
Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe has been family owned and run by the Brunier family, for six generations, with the vineyards planted on the Plateau of La Crau renowned as home to some of the region's finest vines. Its ancient soils are home to the estates old, low-yielding grenache, mourvèdre, syrah, cinsault and clairette et divers vines, many of which have been producing as perfect a fruit as a winemaker could desire for over 70 years. The resulting wines have always found great favour with wine enthusiasts and critics alike and this latest release, from the stunning 2019 vintage is no exception.
Tasting notes:
This is a wine which can be served now, and with a generous rest in the decanter and the right food accompaniment it will offer near unbeatable pleasure. Equally if you able to tuck a case or just a few bottles away and revisit them in the next 5 - 10 years or more the complexity and accessibility will be yet more rewarding.
My suggestion would be to extricate a couple of bottles now to serve at your next grand dinner, and leave the remaining quartet to rest peacefully in their wooden case to be rediscovered over the next decade.

Where possible, we will use the existing packaging the wine is shipped to us in from the producer. If we feel this is unfit, we will re-pack in a Mr.Wheeler branded, recyclable cardboard carton.
