Why This Wine?
Because finding almost 20-year-old Bordeaux drinking this well at such a modest price doesn't happen very often. When our wine buyer Ben Godfrey first tasted the 2007 Château Les Tours Seguy, its combination of mature complexity, depth and remarkable freshness stopped us in our tracks. Rich, savoury and beautifully evolved, yet still full of fruit and life, it's proper aged claret at a price that's increasingly hard to find.
Tasting Note
Plenty going on here. Lovely maturity on the nose with earthy notes, polish and spice – but still with a striking freshness and perfume. Lots of expressive plum and blackberry fruit – very well balanced, and hard to believe this is nearly 20 years old – there is still plenty of life here. Luscious on the palate with dark berry fruit leading to tertiary notes of cedar and woodsmoke. Absolutely bang-on in terms of drinking, and just what lovers of classic, mature claret will be looking for. 90% merlot, 10% cabernet.

Wow, what a hidden gem Cotes de Bourg is. This (2007) is absolutely fabulous (good enough to get me to leave a rare review which is saying something!). Garnet in colour, black cherries and leather and improving all the time in the glass as more and more layers appear - and all at a truly excellent price. I gave 4 stars - but only to leave a little room for all the really great wines out there as really, at its level, this was a full five star purchase all round. Luckily I bought 12 bottles. I now wish I had >doubled that purchase, but very much enjoying what I've got! Great!
