Is Merlot Sweet?

Merlot is not sweet. Its fermentation removes much of its residual sugar, making it considerably dry. Despite its fruity makeup of cherries and plums, which can lead to the perception of sweetness, each glass of Merlot contains less than 1.5g of sugar. Depending on the growing region of Merlot, it may become slightly sweeter, but it is generally a dry wine.

Merlot is a red wine. It is characterised by its blend of various regional berries and is one of the most popular red wines. It offers a range of styles, from highly approachable and easy-drinking to complex and structured, intended to be contemplated. It’s often described as a mellow varietal with lower tannins, a generally lighter body and well-balanced acidity.
What Does Merlot Taste Like?
