2020 Beaune 1er Cru Sur les Grèves - Clos Sainte-Anne, Maison Jaffelin
Upon pouring you're instantly met with a beautiful, vibrant ruby red hue in the glass with a real sense of purity and a crystal like sheen.
A light swirl is all that's required to unleash vibrant aromas of red berry fruit, sweet cherry, blackcurrant leaf, and a notable veneer of oak and spice.
On the palate there's such an intensity of fruit, yet even with that intensity there remains a sense of purity and elegance. The initial medley of delicate, red berry fruit is followed by subtle notes of Mediterranean herb, a delicate seam of warming oak and a lovely fine grained tannic grip.
There's so much going on in the glass; fruit, structure, grip, oak, herbs and more, yet nothing is overpowering, remaining classy and elegant to the finish, which is itself impressively lengthy.
