West Coast Pinot Noir Mixed Case
West Coast Pinot Noir Mixed Case
The finer pinot noirs from America’s West Coast have achieved a level of sophistication and elegance over the past few decades to rival even Burgundy’s most revered. For those pinot-lovers who share this reverence, the ethereal, cool-climate expressions they enjoy from northern California’s Mendocino County or Oregon State’s Willamette Valley provide some of the most gratifying drinking experiences – particularly when purchasing at a more premium £30-£40 a bottle price range. Here, the great wines of the West Coast continue to offer a supreme level of finesse and value when many Premier Crus continue to edge higher and higher in price.
Today, you can experience for yourself some of this luscious expression through Mr.Wheeler’s West Coast Pinot Noir Mixed Case at £240 per case of six. Now with five, ten and even eleven years of age across the selection, it is one showing all the complexities you won’t have to wait by your cellar for.
You can see why Ben Godfrey, our head buyer, has selected this sumptuous trio:
2 x bottles 2012 Pinot Noir, Angela Estate, Abbott Claim, Oregon
“Bright and expressive with sweetish red currant and raspberry. Luscious, smooth and supple in texture, almost creamy, with pronounced summer berries and sweet, smoky spice – a touch of cinnamon perhaps. This is a bold, showy pinot – distinctly new world, and absolutely delicious.”
2 x bottles 2011 Pinot Noir, La Crema, Anderson Valley, Mendocino
“La Crema is a touch darker and more serious. A little more maturity on the nose, with secondary aromas of leather and woodsmoke adding to the ripe black berry fruit. Warm and expressive, but with an appealing elegant structure. Summer fruit flavours, with a touch of violet and nicely integrated tannins. Lots going on here – a class act.”
2 x bottles 2017 Goldeneye Pinot Noir, Duckhorn, Anderson Valley
“In 1996, building on the tradition of excellence they established at Duckhorn Vineyards, Dan and Margaret Duckhorn embraced their growing love of Pinot Noir and came to Anderson Valley to found Goldeneye. In the years since, Anderson Valley has earned acclaim as one of the world’s greatest regions for Pinot Noir. Crafted predominantly from our estate vineyards and shaped by the influence of the wind, water and fog, this wine embodies both the elegance of Anderson Valley Pinot Noir, and its deep, rustic beauty. This 2017 is right in its sweet-spot, with bright, lush fruit and rich textures - very polished and seriously good.”
