"The 2023 Canet Rôtie is an absolute beauty. Made by Floris and Victoria Lemstra at Ch. Canet in Minervois, it’s a blend of (red) Syrah and (white) Viognier and a Côte Rotie in all but name (and price). It’s rich and robust with ripe, earthy dark fruit and yet delicate and elegant too, with freshness and finesse on the finish. I love this wine, and I love that it’s half what you would pay for Rhône Valley Côte Rotie."
Jonathan Ray, The Spectator Magazine.
Put the Northern Rhône's highly prized Côte-Rôtie tradition into Château Canet's deft, winemaking hands and youre set for a luxurious, seductively aromatic blend of syrah and viognier bursting with rich, spicy, dark-berry fruit and zesty freshness.
There's no better way to savour this traditional Rhône blend that would typically cost you over £30 in its native heartland. And although not produced there, the level of craftsmanship and intensity of terroir expression that shines through Canet Rôtie is as close as youll get - for a lot less.
What is Canet Rôtie? Inspired by the winemaking tradition of Côte-Rôtie, the Canet team have crafted a Minervois expression of this renowned blend. One in which a small percentage of viognier added to syrah achieves a wine of balance and aromatic complexity. Because in the warm climate of southern France, fast-ripening syrah will often develop high levels of tannin and alcohol. So, here's where viognier steps in to soften this robust character while imbuing it with floral and aromatic nuances. The result is a refined yet powerful cuvée that captures the essence of syrah with a unique, southern French accent.
