"We offered the 2006 Urbina Rioja Reserva Especial from family-owned, 150-year-old Bodegas Urbina, last year and, although fully mature then, I reckon its even finer with the extra nine months in bottle. A blend of old vine Tempranillo with touches of Mazuelo and Graciano, its rich and fruity with, according to Mrs Ray, plenty of soft, red strawberries and earthy, autumnal notes on the finish."

Mature Rioja, Even Finer with Time
We offered this 2006 Reserva Especial last year and are delighted to have it back. Already fully mature then, the additional time in bottle has only added to its appeal, with Jonathan Ray reckoning it even finer today.
Made from old-vine Tempranillo with touches of Mazuelo and Graciano, this is classic, beautifully evolved Rioja: silky and complex, with mature fruit and plenty of freshness still running through it. At £23 in The Spectator offer, it is a lovely opportunity to enjoy Rioja with two decades of bottle age behind it.
Silky, Complex and Beautifully Evolved
Fine black fruit, black cherry and ripe plum are joined by developed notes of leather and tobacco, all well integrated with the oak. Round, silky and smooth on the palate, with ripe berry and mature fruit through the mid-palate. Refreshing acidity keeps everything elegant and fresh through the finish.
