2015 'Viña del Olivo', Contino, CVNE, Rioja
Rioja aficionados may well know the producer CVNE but its Contino label is perhaps less well known. Whereas most wines from the Rioja region are made using grapes from several vineyards, CVNE’s Contino wines are a result of a single estate. The Viña del Olivo is Contino’s top cuvée and spends 17 months in oak and a further year in bottle before its release. As with the maturation of a vine itself, patience will see this wine reach its full potential; where it will both surprise and impress with notes of rich red and black fruit and the wonderful oak characteristics that one associates solely with Rioja – only it all seems even more powerful and complex in this wine.
"Brilliant violet. Highly perfumed aromas of ripe dark fruits, potpourri and incense are complicated by exotic spice and woodsmoke nuances. Sweet, seamless and expansive on the palate, offering densely packed blackberry, cherry-vanilla and rose pastille flavors that are braced by a spine of juicy acidity. Finishes sweet and impressively long, showing outstanding clarity and fine-grained tannins that blend smoothly with the wine's sappy fruit".

Where possible, we will use the existing packaging the wine is shipped to us in from the producer. If we feel this is unfit, we will re-pack in a Mr.Wheeler branded, recyclable cardboard carton.
