2023 Pouilly Fuissé 1er Cru Sur La Roche, Deux Roches, Famille Collovray & Terrier

My Notes | Tasted Yesterday (and this morning don't judge me!)

A beautifully seductive colour in the glass, a gorgeous golden richness which catches the eye, when you swish the wine almost illuminates in the glass, it's quite mesmerising, and you have explore further.

The aromas are fantastic - sorry I am going to use the 'c' word - because as soon as I lifted the glass it reminded me of Christmas, aargh in August, sorry!

Rich comforting orchard fruit, quince, apricot, spicy peachy notes, with a delicate warming, woody veil, it's elegant but with so much going on, great fun to take your time over and try to unpick the aromatic composition.

Onto the taste, delicious, ripe, crunchy orchard fruit, mature pear and pear skin, dried apricot, subtle melon and peach, a dry spiciness and citrus notes. Again that subtle richness from time in barrel binds the flavours together, and an almost creamy texture presents itself on the very lengthy, dry near-grippy finish.

Taking on board my colleagues comments, I can see this from both perspectives. There is a plumpness to the fruit and rounded texture, not surprising given it originates from the warm 2023 vintage, but equally now with that little bottle age, the richness of fruit is still balanced with a freshness and purity.

I think this is a fabulous wine, for my palate the balance of freshness and fruit richness is right on the money, and it's drinking perfectly right now (this morning in fact!).
