2018 L'Abeille de Fieuzal Blanc, Péssac-Leognan
Looking back to my first tasting note for this cracking white Bordeaux earlier this year, I wrote... "Ah - now this is good!" We snapped up a parcel immediately after tasting.
I absolutely love this. It’s a Pessac-Léognan, which is the part of the Graves appellation where the best whites such as Château Haut-Brion hail from, and it has so much going on. It’s from one of the best properties in the region — Château de Fieuzal — and offers a lot of wine for this price.
Good white Bordeaux is one of the most overlooked and underrated wines around. Abeille de Fieuzal combines Sémillon and Sauvignon to delicious effect, bringing us a wine of striking presence and drinkability. With its bright stone fruit, minerality and citrus zest, it’s equally at home when you might usually reach for a Sancerre or Pouilly-Fumé, while also offering the richness and texture to shine where we would normally look to white Burgundy.
