Indulge in a higher level of Mendozan craftsmanship Bodegas Penedo de Borges' 'Icono' cuvée: a luxurious, ultra-premium, malbec-led blend of only the finest micro-vinification batches they achieve per harvest.

Here, the 2020 vintage - is an opulent, beautifully textured expression of Mendozas signature varietal (85%), but with a splash of cabernets franc and sauvignon, petit verdot, and syrah. One that Master of Wine Tim Atkin has since found to be 'pretty impressive,' and in which renowned critic James Suckling admires a delicious 'dark chocolatey character with black fruit, vanilla, pinewood and hazelnuts.'

Together, an assemblage from the estates 48-hectare single vineyard in the exclusive, Alto Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo (Mendoza), where 1,050 metres of cooler altitude above sea level ensures a refreshing vibrancy to balance opulence and enliven complexity.

“It takes guts to call your wine an icon, just in case people don't agree with you, but this five-way assemblage of Cabernet Franc with 69% Petit Verdot, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah is pretty impressive. Ginger spice and violet aromas segue into a palate of coffee bean and vanilla complemented by cassis and blueberry fruit. 2023-28. 92 points”

“This has dark, chocolatey character with notes of black fruit, vanilla, pinewood and hazelnuts. Medium-to full-bodied, compact and a little tight with a firm texture and bright acidity. Layered.
