ABOUT THIS WINE
Read Critic Reviews

The soft, velvety red Burgundy Le Renard, Coteaux Bourguignons is made by the fifth-generation Devillard family in Mercurey, the top village in the Côte Chalonnaise. The lighter reds from Burgundy are, of course, perfect for the spring and summer months.

The recent vintage follows the fine range of Burgundy vintages since 2019. I discovered this wine, our top selling red from Burgundy, in one of my favourite Parisian Left Bank restaurants, some years ago, where it was their house red from burgundy.

It's one of the few wines at under £20 I enjoy regularly, and with great pleasure. Alas, too many, unless well over £40, are thin and disappointing. Not Le Renard. It's quite simply delicious.

Tasting Note
Finely balanced, great-value red Burgundy with a nod to Beaujolais in the blend. Fresh, exuberant, bright cherry fruit and lively acidity, here's a true quaffing red perfect with all charcuterie and soft cheeses.

What do the critics think?
“The 2019 Domaine Devillard 'Le Renard' is produced by the Devillard family (owners of Ch. de Chamirey in Mercurey and Domaine de Perdrix in Nuits-St-Georges) in the relatively new - well, decade-old - appellation of Coteaux Bourguignons. A low-yield, old vine blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay, it's full of luscious, juicy fruit and the softest of tannins and could hardly be more easygoing.”
Jonathan Ray, The Spectator
“Typically for the Coteaux Bourguignons appellation, this is a blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay from a small family producer in the south of Burgundy, made with low yields and old vines. Moderately pale and translucent, the nose is so appealing, flirting with an herbaceous brightness but firm red fruit beneath: rose-hips, cranberries and raspberry, a delightful floral lift. In the mouth this is as caressing and soft as you like, tannins barely perceptible and the juiciness of the acidity allowing the free-flowing, featherweight but sweet berry fruit carry through to the finish. Not a profound red Burgundy it's true, but an absolutely charming one.”
