"The 2017 Batailley has a perfumed bouquet, quite floral for this property, with violets infusing the vivacious red berry fruit. The palate is a little chewy on the entry, but it pulls through nicely towards a cohesive, dense finish. It feels primal, more so than its peers at the moment. Hopefully it will develop more personality with bottle age...l think it will."

Wines from Pauillac offer me the complexity of flavours I adore in Bordeaux, but especially from the Haut-Médoc. In particular, wines that have the Petit Verdot grape, as part of their blend, to me, give rise to a dryness and complexity of taste that is unique to the terroir of this area. Château Batailley, Cru Classé Pauillac of 2017 is a delicious example of this unique taste. I was very keen to try the 2017 as it had been rated '92/100' for vintage wine. It is worth every point. The well rounded tannins, the dry woody/tobacco notes and long finish, make this wine an excellent choice for taking with robust roasted/grilled/stewed meats or drinking on its own for the sheer pleasure. An excellent wine at an excellent price.
