2012 Syrah 'Clayvin Vineyard', Wheeler&Fromm, Marlborough
Clayvin Vineyard, Marlborough, New Zealand
Under the passionate ownership of Georg Fromm and Johnny Wheeler, Clayvin Vineyard was the first 'hillside' vineyard to be cultivated in the beautiful Marlborough region at the top of the South Island of New Zealand and has consistently produced wines that have attracted worldwide attention and acclaim. Developed in 1991, Clayvin was Marlborough's first hillside vineyards, and is entirely organic. Clayvin takes its name from the clay-based subsoil beneath the vineyard, all vines are carefully hand-tended, and the higher density planting of vines creates natural competition between vines, so they produce less fruit, but of a higher quality.
