1995 Hermitage Blanc, Domaine Jean Louis Chave
"The 1995 white Hermitage appears to be one of the most stupendous examples of white Hermitage Chave has made over the last decade. It easily competes with 1988, 1989, and 1990, a fabulous trilogy of vintages. After tasting through the numerous cuvees, such as Maison Blanche, l'Hermite, Les Rocoules, and Peleat, it is clear that this wine merits a score in the low to mid-nineties. Powerful and rich, with exceptional concentration and intensity, it exhibits a honeyed, juicy inner core of fruit that covers the mid-palate, and a great finish. Now that Jean-Louis is in the cellars, part of the cuvee is being fermented in new oak barrels, which is then blended with the remaining wine that is fermented in older oak, as well as those cuvees kept in tank. This seems only to have added to the wine's richness and delineation."
93 points, The Wine Advocate
An icon of Northern Rhône white wine craftsmanship also. Here, of Marsanne and Roussanne. Sourced from exceptional Hermitage hillside parcels, now after 30 years the '95 shows all the intriguing complexities that become the appellation's classic white flower, honey, stone fruit and vibrant mineral aromas and flavours. Truly world-class.
