2017 Hochar Père et Fils Rouge, Château Musar, Bekaa Valley
"I first encountered the Grand Vin, Château Musar in the 80s and what an impression it made on me, not only was the wine excellent but it was being made with shells firing right left and centre during the Lebanese Civil War!
This wine is made from low-yielding cinsault, grenache and cabernet sauvignon in the Bekaa Valley, 1000 metres above sea level. It is aged in oak for six months and made in a traditional way resulting in a rich spicy wine with flavours of plums, cherries, figs and dates, with a hints of thyme. Lillie and I enjoyed this wine with hen pheasant, noodles and horseradish cream - delicious."

Tasting note:
The 2017 Hochar Pere et Fils is a single vineyard red made from old vine Cinsault, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon grown at 1,000 metres above sea level. The result is a wine of power, concentration, richness and freshness, full of plums, damsons, herbs and spices. This is getting close in quality to the flagship wine of the estate, but at half the price - stunning value
