2020 Château Le Côteau, Margaux (magnum)

This is a fine and classy example of Margaux - opening with the hallmark floral, perfumed style of the village - then the expressive plum and blackcurrant of the sunny 2020 vintage comes through. Such a characterful claret..one moment refined and elegant, then waves of luscious, dark berry fruit and smooth, ripe tannins. 12 months ageing in new French oak barrels adds notes of spice, mocha and espresso to the impressive array of flavours. Outstanding.
(~55% cabernet sauvignon, complimented by merlot and cabernet franc. Le Coteau is one of the last family-owned properties in Margaux. From organic vineyards close to top Chateaux Rauzan-Segla and Issan.)
