2010 Château Ramafort, Cru Bourgeois, Médoc
2010 Château Ramafort, Cru Bourgeois, Médoc
Many of you astute Bordeaux buyers will have noticed the label is reminiscent of (or near identical to) the likes of a certain First Growth Pauillac property: this is no coincidence. Château Ramafort was historically owned by Château Lafite, and the winemaker is Eric Fabre, who spent many happy years learning his craft at the illustrious neighbour. Château Ramafort's vineyards border some of the selection sites of the legendary estate.
This stunning claret from a magnificent vintage, is right on song. Very elegant, with layers of dark fruits and silky tannins. We recommend decanting for 2 hours before drinking.
Tasting notes
A blend of 50% cabernet sauvignon and 50% merlot. Dense deep red colour in the glass. The nose is full of smooth and rich red berries and black fruit - cherry, blueberry and blackberries. The palate is wonderful with a full body and weight to it, while incorporating gorgeous softened tannins having spent many years maturing in bottle. The style is clean with structure and a classic Médoc feel to it. There are very subtle chocolate and toasty toffee notes from the oak along with a gorgeous lengthy finish.
Critic reviews
"A corking Cru Bourgeois Médoc from a 10/10 vintage"
Jonathan Ray, The Spectator
"...it is an inescapable truth that 2010 has produced another year of compelling Bordeaux that will go down as a prodigious vintage..."
Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
"Another stellar vintage [2010], with higher tannin and more freshness than 2009 but comparable intensity. More appealing to classical palates."
Jancis Robinson MW
