ABOUT THIS WINE
Read Critic Reviews

Another fine vintage for Andrew McIness's Ramafort, the 2016 takes the ripeness and expression of the excellent 2015 and adds a nudge more structure and texture. As ever, a claret of remarkable character and presence, with luscious cassis fruit, tobacco, woodsmoke and spice in perfect balance. With time in the glass, more layers of aroma and flavour emerge, and tannins are ripe and fine-grained. Real finesse here.

Tasting Note
Intense bright dark red with a sophisticated and fine nose of restrained ripe fruit. A glorious mouth fill of ripe almost stewed red fruit with hints of spice, leather and tobacco. Lots of complex flavours here supported by strong silky tannins and a mineral underbelly. The finish lasts and lasts. It will of course improve with age.

What do the critics think?
“The 2016 Ramafort has a very attractive bouquet with blackberry, briary and cedar aromas, touches of burnt toast just in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, very well balanced with beautifully integrated new oak on the silky finish. Yes, yes, yes! Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London. (Drink 2020-2035.) ”

“Well-formed, generous, opulent fruit. Excellent oak spice on the palate with attractive burnt meat notes on the length. Has everything you could want from 2015 Bordeaux clarity, balance, length, ripeness. Drink 2018-2025. ”
17 pts., Richard Hemming MW, jancisrobinson.com (2015 vintage)
“There's an absolutely classic fragrance of cedar and pencil-shavings over savoury black fruits, touched with leafiness, game and subtle spices. In the mouth it is medium-bodied and beautifully pitched between that savoury, complex character of tobacco and leather, and a fresher fruit quality. Keen acidity gives excellent balance. Classic all the way, and surely has years of further cellaring potential.”
Tom Cannavan, Wine-pages.com (2015 vintage)

COMPARISON BASKET COMPARE

I found this a very acceptable and decent claret for regular drinking. very very good value, and a small lesson in looking for supplies in interesting areas. Top marks to the detectives at FVD.
