2022 Village Montagny, Vignerons de Buxy
Meursault and Montrachet, we've all heard of these two iconic Burgundy villages which between them produce some of the most sought after and expensive white wines in the world. They may even grab the headlines, but for me its a third Burgundian M, Montagny, that should be found in every chardonnay fan's wine rack. In terms of pure enjoyment, value and affordability, Montagny is extremely hard to beat.
This 'Village' Montagny is made with the same care and attention to detail as their Premier Cru wines - Les Chaniots and Les Coéres - and is a blend from grapes grown across all of their Montagny vineyard plots. The resulting wine is wonderfully fruity, rounded and pure Burgundian in character.
Montagny is situated in the south of the Côte Chalonnaise, which itself takes the name from the nearby town of Chalon-sur-Saône. The wines here certainly give their more illustrious Côte-d'Or neighbours to the north a real run for their money. Its where vineyards on limestone soils provide zippy freshness and where fermentation in stainless steel tank locks in freshness for wines showing a gorgeous purity of fruit.

About the producer
The Vignerons de Buxy are in the Côte Chalonnaise, in the south of Burgundy. Established over 80 years ago, this is a collaboration of 120 Burgundian families, all inspired by the same values of solidarity, quality and respect for their Burgundian heritage. Growing and harvesting of grapes is rigorously controlled, and modern winemaking innovations go hand-in-hand with traditional methods and expertise.
Super value and well worth trying. I was very pleasantly surprised!
