2015 Château Mascard, Haut Médoc
Clarets from the hugely drinkable 2015 vintage are always at the top of our shopping list. Château Mascard is precisely this. We tasted their 2015 when visiting some of our Bordeaux contacts a few weeks ago and were soon thrilled to learn that a parcel was still available of this irresistible vintage. A vintage so good, we felt we had no choice but to ship some straight away. It’s in our cellars now.
But where it really belongs is on your dining table. Because here’s a Médoc delivering so much immediate drinking pleasure. A claret that’s rounder, suppler than so many châteaux at this level, and a great advertisement for this sunny vintage.
Unoaked, the 2015 is made from 65% merlot and 35% cabernet sauvignon, all of which is sourced from the estate’s mere 3.5Ha of vineyard situated on the gravelly hills overlooking the Garonne in the heart of the Haut-Médoc.

Tasting note:
A fine example of this very easy-to-enjoy vintage. The colour in the glass is now showing a touch of maturity as a paler red now surrounds a deeper, ruby core. Mascard is warm and expressive on the nose, with ripe plum and blackberry aromas and an appealing, perfumed freshness. Secondary aromas gradually emerge, with a hint of woodsmoke and a subtle, spicy, chargrilled note. This is fresh, luscious, and very easy-going on the palate where it’s warm and rounded, yet not overcooked - just bursting with bright, fruit coulis freshness above fine, grainy tannins. Very well balanced on the finish for a smart, well-made claret that’s at just the right stage of maturity.
