2024 Viognier, Domaine de La Baume, Languedoc
2024 was a small but brilliant vintage in the Languedoc and the team at Domaine de La Baume have again produced another wonderfully rich, opulent and balanced viognier.
As in previous vintages, this latest offering is simply lovely, a faint golden honey colour in the glass, with a seductive perfume of luscious peach and apricot fruit with a hint of tangerine zest.
The palate offers a medley of elegant, exotic fruit with a touch of weight and texture with enough citrus zest to maintain freshness on the finish. It's the slow, cool fermentation in stainless steel vats that gently teases out and preserves the pure aromatics and exotic flavours for which viognier is famed. What's more, additional aging on lees has resulted in a beautifully rounded mouthfeel and weight.
Another stunning example of the viognier grape, delicious as a chilled aperitif, and a wonderful partner to aromatic Asian cuisine, fish and white meats.
It remains incredible value.
DOMAINE DE LA BAUME never disappoints in our house. White or red but particularly the Viognier. It's nonsense of course but the bottle always feels mighty in the hand and thus the contents gain in satisfaction.
