2019 Château Teyssier, Saint-Émillion Grand Cru
The slightest agitation of the glass releases a wave of ripe, sweet, dark-berry fruit, plum, spice and star anise, with a seam of sweet, smoky oak on the tail end.
The deep-red core, delicate purpling brim is balanced with a sparkle of clarity in the glass, showing both an elegance and intensity that is soon manifest on the palate.
Once there, pow! ripe blackcurrant, plum, a hint of red-berry, raspberry tartness, liquorice, and blueberry erupt. Gently the flavours subside, making way for a velvety, creamy feel on the palate, where tannins briefly grip to keep the sweet fruit in check, then exit for notes of dried herb - no doubt courtesy of the cabernet franc in the blend - and sweetish, smoky oak to resurface.
On the finish, warming oak and ripe dark current coulis holding long and with gentle grip. This is outstanding claret.
