2020 Margaux (declassified)
Dark-berry and exotic spice aromatics; warm, opulent, cassis fruit; richly textured – ripe and juicy tannins. Plush, supple, complex, showy – pure Margaux. And from a vintage that capped what critics hailed as a triumphant trio – one already showing an irresistible approachability.
‘Declassified’…
But how all this for so little as that? By way of the ‘declassified’ cuvée: Mr.Wheeler’s close relationships with some of Bordeaux’s most respected négociants means we’re offered occasional access to exclusive parcels of claret from ultra-prestigious estates. Parcels where you enjoy the same pedigree and expertise of the estate’s Grand Vin, but in wines made with vintage-surplus fruit and in bottles without their Grand Vin label on.
And when we say, ‘ultra-prestigious estates’, we mean just that. It’s just that we can’t disclose which one. This is how we keep the price so low.
"I first came across the 2020 Margaux at some crazy mixed-up schnauzer gala in Bordeaux and have loved it ever since. I got chocolate, mint and blueberries on the nose and lovely balanced fruit, gentle tannins and fine acidity in the mouth and loved the long, long finish. Re-reading my tasting notes later, I see that I wrote Pretty bloody gorgeous. Nuff said."
