2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 'Les Evocelles', Domaine Philippe Livera

Evocelles produces stylish, mineral and elegant wines that yet are surprisingly powerful thanks to its southern exposition. The bouquet is liquorice and black fruit with stylish texture, seamless and compact. A great Villages site, undeniably of 1er Cru quality here.

Domaine Livera is widely considered the 'next Burgundian star' tellingly by both their consumers and winemaking contemporaries. Son Damien has in 13 years taken the wines to a different level altogether, whose style is one of purity, precision of fruit and impressive depth, and one quite reminiscent of the wines produced by Arnaud Mortet (close friend and advisor). An address that is very much one to watch.
