2016 Nyetimber Blanc de Blancs, West Sussex/Hampshire

The multi award-winning Blanc de Blancs from Nyetimber confidently competes with some of the most famous examples in the world. This 100% chardonnay offers a real change in style from the classic cuvée, the nose is delicate and floral, citrus and just the merest hint of vanilla and salinity.

The palate is softer and more rounded than the Classic Cuvée, with a real mineral, chalky element in the background with a toasty edge and lengthy finish which has grown in texture and complexity with time resting in bottle.

"The subtle nose opens with hints of wet chalk and ripe Amalfi lemon. That wonderfully ripe, brisk, lemon ripeness also pervades the palate where the fine mousse highlights the chalky depth of the wine, its rounded fruit and a textural quality that seems to come with a hint of dried corn husk. This strikes a lovely balance that makes most of Englands briskness and Nyetimbers famed sense of balance. There is depth and length and much elegance."

"This smells like an autumn apple festival! Gloriously appley. And such purity! A wine that is not relying on lees ageing to give it depth or flavour or richness it's all there in this incredible fruit. It fills the mouth, a trumpet concerto of silver and gold notes, while the acidity feels like the spine-tingling vibrations of harp strings, thrumming up and down I can feel this wine like a thread-fine electric current under my skin and through my bones. Translucent white spring florals dancing weightlessly through prismic citrus; lime, yuzu, grapefruit peel. Then, right at the end, a lick of cold salted butter, a dab of cumin and coriander spice."
