Read Critic Reviews

Savour classic Graves terroir expression in this most historic of Bordeaux vintages. Experience what intriguing complexities almost fifteen years of maturation now show in such a vintage - especially when borne of terroir so renowned for its precision of fruit and invigorating minerality.

For the enthusiast in you, this is sheer gratification-by-claret. Sheer drinking pleasure that begins with an ever-vibrant freshness on the nose - straight out of the glass - one redolent of that perfumed earthiness and flinty minerality that is the hallmark of fine Graves. Leafiness, liquorice and savoury spice, too. On the palate, silky, expansive, and still just bursting with 2009s ripeness: youthful, juicy black and red fruit that is energised by a sustained freshness and flecked by more peppery spice. Still full of well-balanced life. Mellowed, rounded tannins, and all throughout, streaks of creamy minerality that continue to a very clean, vibrant and lingering end. Classic Graves claret as it should be enjoyed - and now.

Tasting Note
Fresh, elegantly perfumed, with luscious black and red berry fruit both on the nose and following through on the palate. Warming in the mouth, perfectly balanced between the fruit, the tannins and the hint of spice - trademark Graves.

What do the critics think?
“...a wonderfully stylish petit château from the Graves. As you know, 2009 was a stellar vintage in Bordeaux and this is in such irresistible form (and provided such solace the other night) that I just had to add it to the offer. A classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, its richly flavoured, with lush, juicy fruit and hints of spice, chocolate, vanilla and cedarwood. I love it!”
Jonathan Ray, The Spectator
“I have tasted enough wines from 2005, 2009 and 2010 to realize that these may be the three greatest Bordeaux vintages I have tasted in my career. ”
Robert Parker, Wine Advocate

Region Information

Region Information - Tuscany

For many people Tuscany represents the very heart and soul of Italian wine. Arguably the nation's greatest region for fine wine, it actually only accounts for a mere 6% of its overall production.

Though white wine is produced here, and to great effect, the true notoriety of the region is more reflected in the DOC and DOCG communes of Chianti, Montepulciano, Montalcino and Bolgheri. Here Sangiovese is king and reaches its absolute apogee. Famously, it is also where its marriage to international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot has had a transcendent effect on quality for numerous new wave estates.

Producer Information

Producer Information - Monchiero

In Castiglione Falleto, in the heart of the Barolo region, the Monchiero family established their wine business in the 1950s, initially only selling their grapes, but by the 1970s making their own wine.

Vittorio Monchiero has been at the helm since the 1980s, whilst his son Luca has recently joined the business.
