2021 Family Reserve Syrah, Domaine de Mourchon
An intense, dark hue fills the glass, stretching almost to the rim, clearly showcasing the wine's concentration. With a swirl, this is ever more apparent in a viscosity that coats the sides of the glass. On the nose, there's an abundance of concentrated dark cherry coulis, accompanied by a hint of prickly spice and sweet, juicy blackcurrant, along with a delicate waft of spice and oak.
The palate offers a burst of dark currant and cherry flavours, with a subtle whip of liquorice and a delicate, smoky sweetness. The tannins are remarkably soft and well-integrated; initially, there's a hint of grip, but upon returning to the glass for a second sip, the ripe fruit swathes perfectly mask any astringency. The dark currant coulis character lingers beautifully on the palate for a wonderfully long time, complemented by a subtle hint of warming oak on the finish.

2021 Family Reserve Grenache, Domaine de Mourchon
The glass reveals a dark central core, contrasted by a vibrant, sharper brim, hinting at a sense of purity and elegance, distinct from the syrah. This elegance is echoed in the aromas, with hints of hedgerow and brambly blackberry, accompanied by vibrant ripe red cherry notes and a touch of bell pepper spice.
On the palate, the wine presents a medium-bodied and complex profile, showcasing a medley of red berry fruit and spice, with a subtle hint of star anise, characteristic of this very fresh vintage. There's also a delicate vegetal, herbaceous character, along with warming oak, which provides structure to the fruit without overpowering it. The finish is both lengthy and complex, with lingering notes of warming oak and spice. The tannins are mouthcoating and drying, contributing to the wine's overall balance.
