Exceptional White Burgundy Case
The fine wine world has a bit of a one-track mind, and often wines of superb quality can get 'forgotten' after the initial en primeur release offer ends, as merchants and consumers alike focus on the next region to bring forth their new vintage.
The silver lining to this is that every once and while, as we (quite literally) take stock of whats in our warehouse, we get to re-discover these gems as we come across a cache of wonderful wines, now not only physical but with a little bottle age, too!
When they are from a vintage as good as 2016 was in Burgundy, excitement levels run high...
This is exactly what happened with the three white burgundies we are offering in this mixed case. They come from top producers with whom we have worked for years, superstars of their appellations, and this mixed case represents the perfect opportunity to see how the three hallowed communes of the Côte dOr performed in this stellar vintage; 2 years on since their first release they have now entered their optimal drinking window, and although they will remain there for a few years yet, they are really starting to sing.
Wines Included in the Mixed Case:
2 x 2016 Meursault, Les Narvaux, Domaine Boyer-Martenot - Nutty, mouth-enveloping creamy texture balanced by a lovely mineral tension. A Meursault to enjoy early in its life.
2 x 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet, Jean-Marc Pillot - Generous and silky with lovely citrus notes, hints of honey and a considerable degree if finesse.
2 x 2016 Puligny-Montrachet, Domaine Henri Darnat - There is an impressive tension and crisp acidity to Henri's Puligny-Montrachet. This is a wine of intense flavour but eminently refreshing and food-friendly. The richness of fruit and length made this very much worthy of inclusion in our list.
