Tasting Notes
A quick swirl of the glass and you are greeted by intense aromas of dark fruit, subtle bay leaf, a touch of oak, crushed herbs and spice. There appears to be a greater, tighter concentration of fruit than the previous 2013 vintage, but the layers and complexity within are immediately evident.
The palate follows the nose particularly in terms of its concentration; with ripe, juicy red berries and peppery, dark savoury fruit leading the charge, progressing through to a spicy, herbaceous layer, with a slight hint of mint leaf and possibly even a delicate touch of eucalyptus. There is a fantastic grip and structure to the wine, with a lengthy finish of warming oak and gentle peppery spice.
The superb structure and concentration will certainly permit further evolution in the bottle over the next 5+ years. To realise the potential at this early stage a good decant and hearty menu are highly recommended.

Were it not for the presence of 15% Syrah in the mix, this would be a four-way Bordeaux blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with 10% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Structured, stylish, intense, with plenty of vibrancy and ageing potential, layers of plum, mulberry and blackcurrant leaf flavours, some fresh herbs and fine, granular tannins. Drink 2022-27. Where possible, we will use the existing packaging the wine is shipped to us in from the producer. If we feel this is unfit, we will re-pack in a Mr.Wheeler branded, recyclable cardboard carton.
