2014 Vieux Château Saint André, Montagne Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux
Vieux Château Saint André belongs to Jean-Claude Berrouet who was the winemaker at Pétrus for 44 years until his retirement in 2007. Berrouet was recruited to be winemaker and technical director for Etablissements Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1964 where he was responsible for the production of their complete range of wines from Pomerol and St. Émilion. These estates included over a dozen properties among which were right-bank royalty Châteaux Magdelaine, Trotanoy and Pétrus.
2014 Vieux Château Saint André, Montagne-Saint-Émilion is a delicious Bordeaux, ready for drinking, and made by the man who built Pétrus reputation as a contender for the title of Greatest Red Wine in the World.
Tasting note: This mature claret from the legendary 2010 vintage is rich and smooth with great balance. It is full and round with a nose of dark fruits including cassis, blackberry and plum, with delicious complexity on the pallet and finely-balanced oak. It will be at its peak for a good few years yet and is a brilliant food wine.
