"The 2019 Finca Don Otaviano Estate Premium Cabernet Sauvignon from Argentina is a complete bargain, full of fresh cassis notes."
Jonathan Ray, The Spectator Magazine
We all know Argentina is the modern home of the malbec grape, with popularity soaring in recent years. But many in the know think that cabernet sauvignon is where Argentina is really strong, producing some of the best value examples around. In the search of a classy cabernet, we found this Estate Premium Cab from Bodegas Otaviano a winery weve been shipping from exclusively into the UK for 18 months or so at an unbeatable price.
Its an extremely enjoyable glass with pronounced cassis, blackberry character and herbaceous notes. The structure and richness of the wine are superb here, and we were captivated by the sweetness to the fruit on the palate.
This wine is shipped directly to our warehouse from the bodega in Mendoza, and it's definitely worth a case or two. Take a look too at the rest of the range from Bodegas Otaviano we have a taster case, highly recommended.
"High altitude and plenty of sun give both freshness and ripeness as well as extraordinary depth of blackcurranty, spicy flavour. Delicious!"

If you were to start a vineyard anywhere in the world, and were looking for the absolutely perfect spot, chances are you would end up in Lujan de Cuyo.
Beautiful sunshine and dry conditions bring ripeness and concentration, yet cool nights at the 1,000 metres+ altitudes and a complex and sophisticated system of irrigation dating back to the Incas combine to keeping freshness, and a juicy quality to the fruit. Nestled in this perfect corner of the vinous world is our latest find – Bodegas & Vinedos Otaviano.
Over the past 14 years they have established a superb estate, where the focus is firmly on meticulous husbandry of the vineyard to produce fruit of the highest quality, which can then be vinified with painstaking care in a state-of-the art winery. The resulting wines deliver sensational value – pure, beautifully balanced with excellent length of flavour, yet they are incredibly competitive price-wise.
Mendoza in the far west of Argentina is the country's most important wine region. Vineyard altitude averages 1000 metres, and the climate is considered close to ideal for red wine production, and now increasingly white.
A semi-desert climate, run-off water from the Andes and contrasting day and night temperatures result in deeply coloured, scented and structured red wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon and tempranillo in addition to Malbec and Bonarda. Chardonnay, Torrontes and Sauvignon are the main white grapes cultivated, though quality wines from Viognier and Chenin Blanc are also appearing.
