Californian Reds Fine Wine Mixed Case
Three reds, two counties - one mixed case of classic California. Today's Mr.Wheeler offer brings you three world-famous reds from Napa and Sonoma Counties and with them the unmistakeable elegance and ever-delicious expressions of Golden State signature varietals. You will find two bottles each of the following wines.
2017 Paraduxx, Duckhorn, Napa Valley
Almost 30 years of stylish Napa blends and in a modern style: bold, characterful, complex. Paraduxx is a block and barrel selection of the best estate fruit, combining both the structure, depth and vibrancy of mountain fruit with lush, valley floor opulence.
Cabernet sauvignon 90% and zinfandel 10% for blueberry, brown sugar, cigar box, sweet tobacco leaf with hints of dark chocolate and anise. A richly layered palate with more blueberry and black cherry fruit coated in velvety tannins; then fresh bread, cocoa, cedar, white pepper... expansive, endless finish. Every reason for drinking Napa Valley swirls the glass. And the barbecues just there.
2015 Grgich Hills, Zinfandel, Napa Valley
Any winemaker whod had a hand in Californias 1976 Judgement of Paris triumph cannot but be the stuff of legend. Meet Mike Grgich and a true original. Although at Montelena in those heady times, hes long since established his name as among the greatest in American winemaking.
Now taste what he does with this, Californias iconic varietal. Not overripened, extracted and oaked; instead, fragrant, delicate strawberry and sultana on the nose; then clove, spice, pepper elegantly courses the palate. Boysenberry and blood citrus fruit is driven by juicy acidity and beautifully refined tannins and here is what the greatest Golden State wines have ever been: sculpted, restrained, supremely balanced. California as you must taste it.
2018 Ridge Lytton Springs, Dry Creek Valley
Then, to Ridge Vineyards. Having long since entered the pantheon of Californian icons, their Lytton Springs cuvée has entered that of the greatest expressions of Sonoma Countys Dry Creek Valley zinfandel. From 100-year-old zinfandel vines, in some cases.
In the 2018, 72% zinfandel, 18% petite sirah, 8% carignane and 2% mataro show potent, ripe boysenberry and blackberry and a pronounced rusticity and earthiness often attributed to its petite sirah and carignan blending varietals. Acidity and tannin are firm, and fruit predominates. Lytton Springs is balanced and powerful, gaining in nuance while ageing with great ease.
But don't just take our word for it:

"The 2018 Lytton Springs is magnificent. Elegant, layered and so complete, the 2018 has a lot to offer, but it needs time to fully come together. Sweet red cherry, red plum, blood orange, spice, mint and rose petal open up in the glass. Bright acids and beams of tannin give the wine its vibrant energy. Readers should plan on cellaring the 2018 for at least a few years. Wow! Drink 2026-2048" 96 points - Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com
