2015 Bordeaux Right Bank Mixed Case
2015 Bordeaux Right Bank Mixed Case
One glorious summer deserves another: treat yourself today to the beautifully ripened Right Bank merlots from Bordeauxs opulent 2015 vintage with Mr.Wheelers mixed case offer. Here, Saint-Émilion, Pomerol and Fronsac (unsung Fronsac!) unite for a trio of fabulous reds which, these seven years on, are now in prime drinking mode. A fantastic opportunity to taste how deliciously Châteaux Laroque, Mazeyres and La Vieille Cure have expressed 2015s warmth and bounty.
Seven years on and 2015 is still regarded unanimously as one of the finer in the past twenty, one during which Julys intense heat gave way to refreshing August rains and cool September nights. The result? Exceptional fruit character, plentiful tannins for a wonderful textural element; chalky, mineral freshness and persistently zippy acidity that made for voluptuous, fruit-forward wines.
2015 Chateau Laroque, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Significantly, 2015 was the first vintage for estate manager David Suire, who since then has been aiming for an ever-more elegant rendition of the superb fruit Château Laroque grows on the Saint-Émilion limestone plateau. Suire's strategy immediately paid delicious dividends as exemplified in this debut vintage: richness, power and depth, dark merlot flavours beautifully countered by juicy red fruit, tremendous freshness and a minerality on the finish one would expect in far pricier clarets. It's for cuvées like the 2015 that Château Laroque remains, indisputably, one of our strongest-selling reds.
2015 Château Mazeyres, Pomerol
A shot of blackberry and damson jelly sweetness with complex spicy aromatics and a fine, ripe tannic structure.
92 points, Decanter
First vintage of organic certification. Lots of spicy oak at first, then a relatively subtle black fruit and fine tannic weave on the finish. Long, graceful finish. Suitably plump.
2015 Château La Vieille Cure, Fronsac
The 2015 La Vieille Cure has some cedary notes to begin, giving way to scents of red and black currants, blackberries and forest floor plus hints of truffles and iron ore. Full-bodied and packed with vibrant fruit, the oak still stands apart a tad in the flavor profile and structure, yet it should emerge beautifully with another 2-3 years in bottle and drink for the following 15-20 years. Drink 2020-2040.
92+ points, The Wine Advocate
Dense tannins and rich black fruits mark this ripe wine that was organically grown. Its tannins are cushioned by the concentrated but generous black fruits giving the wine great purity as well as structure.
