2016's from Great Estates Mixed Case
2016's from Great Estates Mixed Case
Seven years on and 2016 is without doubt one of the great Bordelais vintages in living memory. Great because its balance, enduring freshness, depth of flavour and ageability prove consistent across all Bordeaux's appellations and price points, of which these gems are no exceptions. In this mixed case, three exemplarly, second and third cuvées from world-class châteaux in the equally prestigious Pauillac, Pomerol and Saint-Julien. Energy, verve, terroir -- and three cuvées now drinking nicely.
2016 Les Tourelles de Longueville, Pauillac
"The 2016 Les Tourelles de Longueville is a blend of 58% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot (from young vines that are destined to go into the Grand Vin one day, according to Christian Seely), matured in 30% new oak for 12 months. It offers a mixture of red and black fruit on the nose, just a touch of melted tar with fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a powerful opening, dense black fruit tinged with graphite, a solid Deuxième Vin with a slightly aloof finish (at least at the moment). There is a pleasant graphite note lingering long on the aftertaste that completes a fine Pauillac to enjoy over the next 12-15 years. Drink 2021-2040" 90-92 points, The Wine Advocate
2016 La Réserve de Léoville-Barton, Saint-Julien
"Coal smoke and dark, stony minerals create a dramatic, moody aura here, around spicy red berries and black cherries. The palate has great energy and verve with cocoa-dusted,wild berries and an immaculate, fresh and sleek finish. Second wine of Léoville Barton." 94/100 James Suckling
2016 Pomerol by Clinet, Pomerol
A beautifully crafted Pomerol from Château Clinet's vineyards. The merlot blend with a touch of cabernet franc makes this a first rate Pomerol to start drinking now.
